Levels of care

PHP vs IOP vs OP - clear distinctions

All three are outpatient. Intensity is about clinical hours and structure - how much support you need each week while you practice recovery in real life.

Who outpatient care is for

  • Medically stable and past acute, unsafe withdrawal
  • Safe housing at home or in sober living
  • Able to attend scheduled groups and therapy
  • Motivated enough to practice skills between sessions
  • Co-occurring concerns that can be managed in outpatient care

Who it is not for

  • Active medical detox needs
  • Need for 24-hour supervised care
  • Immediate danger to self or others (call 911 or 988)
  • Living situation too unsafe for outpatient accountability

Unsure? Start with admissions or call (714) 274-7969. We refer out when outpatient is not the safer fit.

Standard OP steps down from IOP with fewer clinical hours. Alumni retain indefinite access to groups and R&R sponsored events.

Family participation

We include family in treatment and offer family therapy and/or counseling per the client's request. Family involvement is scheduled in advance and shaped around what is safe and productive for the client.

To protect the privacy and anonymity of everyone enrolled, family members do not attend group therapy.

Safety & fit

  • If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988.
  • R&R Recovery provides outpatient levels of care - PHP, IOP, extended care, and group therapy - for adults who are medically stable enough for day treatment.
  • When a higher level of care is clinically appropriate, admissions will help with referral to a vetted provider that can meet that need.
